A video of a mob assaulting a man on a railway line is viral on social media. Users claim that it shows Jihadi Muslims attacking a railway gateman in Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh.
An X (formerly Twitter) user shared the video with the caption, “Hardoi, UP: Railway Gateman beaten by suspected Muslim Jihadis. They also proudly uploaded the attack video on social media.”

NewsMeter found that the video shows violence after an accident in Mahmudpur Saraiya village in Pihani Kotwali in Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh. The claim of the railway gateman being attacked is false.
On performing a reverse image search of the video’s keyframe, we found the screenshots of the video carried by a report published on August 12, 2023. It said Saba Haider, a resident of Mahmudpur Saraiya, accidentally hit his bike on a woman named Parveen from the Saraiya village and fled from the spot. However, Perveen’s family members barged into Haider’s house and assaulted him.
Haider was again assaulted near the railway crossing 21D-2E by Parveen's relatives while he was heading to his shop.
UP Tak also published a video report of the whole incident with the same information on August 13, 2023.
Responding to the post alleging Muslims beating up the railway gateman, the official handle of Hardoi police clarified that the allegation of attacking the gateman was baseless and false.
Hence, we conclude that the video does not show Muslims attacking a railway gateman in UP’s Hardoi. The claim is false.
