Viral claim that ITBP has called for Chinese products boycott is false

Hyderabad: An image of a hoarding calling for the boycott of Chinese products is viral on social media. Users claim it has been put up by Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).

"I won't let the Chinese enter our borders, and you shouldn't buy made in China products this Diwali. Let's fight together," reads the English translation of the text on the hoarding.

Ashwani Mahajan, the National co-convenor of Swadeshi Jagran Manch, tweeted the image.

FACT CHECK:

The claim that ITBP is boycotting Chinese products is false.

NewsMeter performed a reverse image search and found a similar picture on a Facebook page that was uploaded in October 2017 with a text, 'Swadeshi Jagran Manch, Chittorgarh'.

On comparing the two pictures, it was clear that the viral image is morphed.

Apart from this, On October 28, 2020, PIB Fact Check tweeted that the viral image was fake.

This was also retweeted by ITBP's official Twitter handle. According to the tweet, no such claim was made by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police force.

Evidently, the claim is false. This hoarding has been put up by Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM), Chittorgarh, not ITBP.
