Fact Check: Viral image doesn't feature Congress leader Supriya Shrinate meeting Dawood Ibrahim

Hyderabad: An image of a woman sitting opposite underworld gangster Dawood Ibrahim in an office is going viral on social media. Those sharing the image insinuate that it shows the former journalist and current spokesperson of the Congress, Supriya Shrinate posing with gangster Dawood Ibrahim.

NewsMeter found that the woman posing in the image with Ibrahim is a journalist named Sheela Bhatt and not Supriya Shrinate. On performing a reverse image search, we found that the image was tweeted by Bhatt on June 14. In the caption, she mentioned that the picture was taken while she Interviewed Dawood Ibrahim in the Pearl Building of Dubai in 1987.
In another tweet, she said her interviews with Dawood were cover pages of her magazine, Abhiyaan and of The Illustrated Weekly in 1987.
Moreover, we checked that Shrinate was born in 1977, making her only ten years old when this viral image was clicked.
Hence, we conclude that an image of Dawood Ibrahim with journalist Sheela Bhatt is being shared with a false claim that it shows him with Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate.
