Fact Check: Viral image of AP CM by the seaside is AI-generated

NewsMeter received the image on WhatsApp.
An image purportedly of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is viral on social media. Users claim he is visiting London.
The image is being forwarded on WhatsApp with the caption, “Boss in London.”

Fact Check
NewsMeter found that the image has been created using Artificial Intelligence (AI).
We ran the image through AI-detecting tools Optic AI and Hugging Face. These tools detected that it was AI-generated. The Optic AI says that the image is AI-generated, and the Hugging Face detected that the image is 87 percent artificial and 13 percent human.

On carefully analyzing the image, we noticed the logo of “BDESIGN” and the text reading “A KISHORE BABU YARLAPATI’S DESIGN”.
Taking these cues, we ran a relevant keyword search on Facebook and found the same image posted by the account Kishore Babu Yarlapati on September 9, 2023. In the caption, it is mentioned that the image was edited with AI and Photoshop.
In an E-mail conversation, Yarlapati confirmed to NewsMeter that the image was generated by him using AI and Photoshop.
Hence, we conclude that the image of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy posing by the seaside is not real. It was generated using AI and Photoshop.
