Hyderabad: An image of Major Kumud Dogra marching to her husband, Wing Commander Dushyant Vats’s funeral, with their newborn is making rounds on social media. Those sharing the video claim that the media that even covered the pre-wedding extravaganza of Anant Ambani in Jamnagar for three days did not cover the funeral.
“Major Smt Kumud Dogra... in her arms are her five-day-old baby and her feet marching towards the dead body of her husband Wing Cmdr D Vats... a rare epitome of courage... salute to you, Major Smt Dogra. No media has covered this news on any channel. The whole country was more bothered about 3 days Jamnagar extravaganza. Sad that our service people don't even get a bit of respect from the Politicians and the Media…Salute to Major Smt Kumud Dogra…, (sic)” wrote an X user who shared the image.
Fact Check
NewsMeter found that the claim is misleading as the incident is from 2018 when it was covered by the mainstream media.
Upon a reverse image search, we found the image in a 2018 report by India Today titled ‘Army officer attends martyred husband’s funeral with five-day-old baby, leaves Twitter teary-eyed.’
As per the channel, the image shows Major Durga with her five-day-old daughter in her arms, paying last tributes to her husband, Wing Commander D Vats, who died in an unfortunate Indian Air Force plane crash on February 15, 2018.
The Indian Express also carried the image in its report published on February 23, 2018. In a tragic accident, two pilots of Indian Air Force Wing Commander Jai Paul James and Wing Commander D Vats were killed after a microlight helicopter in which they were travelling crashed on in Assam’s Majuli island on February 15, 2018.
The Statesman and Zee News also carried the image in their reports from February 2018.
Hence, we conclude that the image is not recent and the claim is misleading.
