Hyderabad: An image showing three doppelgangers of Hollywood actor Tom Cruise posing together in a photograph is going viral on social media. A verified Twitter user, Lakshmi R Iyer, shared the image claiming it shows Cruise with his ‘identical stunt doubles’ at the wrap party of the Hollywood movie, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.

Fact Check
NewsMeter found that the image is not real and was created using the Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool Midjourney. On performing a reverse image search, we found several images of Cruise with his identical stunt doubles, including the viral one posted by a Facebook user named Ong Hui Woo on June 4. The caption states that the images were created using Midjourney.
Ong Hui Woo, in the introduction section of his Facebook account, has stated that he has been using Midjourney since November 20, 2022. We reached out to Woo, who confirmed that Cruise’s stunt double image was created by him. He also added that he did not intend to trick anyone and that the image was created only for entertainment.
Hence, we conclude that an AI-generated image of Tom Cruise posing with his stunt doubles is going viral as a real image.
