Fact Check: Viral photo of Jashodaben showing 'guarantees' is morphed

Hyderabad: A photo of prime minister Narendra Modi’s estranged wife Jashodaben is doing rounds on social media. In the photo, Jashodaben can be seen posing with a piece of paper with the text, ‘The first “guarantee” he gave was to me only! The rest you are wise!’

Targeting PM Modi, a Threads user shared the image and wrote, “Begging is sought in the name of God, not votes! To get votes, one should talk about employment, education, health, agriculture and the economy. Remove the BJP and save the country. We need good education, health and employment. (translated in Hindi)”

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that it is a morphed image. In the original image, Jashodaben is holding an RTI application.

Upon a reverse image search, we found the original image in a report by The Times of India published on November 25, 2014, titled ‘Congress jibe at Modi: Your wife Jashodaben used same RTI brought by UPA.’

According to the newspaper, Jashodaben is holding a copy of an RTI application filed by her, outside the office of the deputy superintendent of police in Gujarat’s Mehsana on November 24, 2014.

According to Hindustan Times in January 2015, Jashodaben had applied under the RTI Act in November with Mehsana police seeking details of the security provided to her after Modi became prime minister.

NDTV also published a video report on November 24, 2014. The report shows Jashodaben holding an RTI application and speaking to the media on the reason for filing the RTI application.
