Viral video does not show CR7 score first goal for Al Nassr

Hyderabad: A Facebook reel of footballer Cristiano Ronaldo is going viral with the claim that the video shows him scoring his first goal for his new club Al Nassr against Al Tai.

After signing Cristiano Ronaldo on 31 December 2022, Al Nassr had its first match with Al Tai at Mrasool park in Riyadh on 6 January. Al Nassr won the match 2-0.

The viral video claiming Cristiano Ronaldo celebrating his first goal in the victorious match has gone viral on social media.

NewsMeter found that Cristiano Ronaldo is currently serving a two-match ban for misbehaving with a fan while he was with Manchester United.

We performed a keyword search on Google and found a report by Arab News that clearly states that Cristiano Ronaldo was not part of the Al Nassr vs Al Tai match. "Al-Nassr's first match following the historic signing of Cristiano Ronaldo ended in a 2-0 victory over Al-Tai at Mrsool Park in Riyadh on Friday night. The new hero was not eligible to make his debut as he was serving the first game in a two-match ban outstanding from his time while at Manchester United," it said.

Indian Express and ESPN also reported that Cristiano did not play the match against Al Tai but watched the match from the training room.

According to a report by The Athletic, "Cristiano Ronaldo has been banned for two matches and handed a £50,000 fine for hitting a mobile phone out of a fan's hand after Manchester United's game against Everton."

A simple keyword search led us to the original video from which the viral video has been extracted with misleading claim. The original video was dated August 23, 2021, with a title: Cristiano Ronaldo vs Udinese Away (22/08/2021) HD 1080i.

Hence, the claim that the video shows Cristano scoring his first goal for his new club Al Nassr is false.
