Hyderabad: A video of a man smashing his TV is being widely shared on social media with the claim that a man from Pakistan destroyed his television set after the recent India-Pakistan cricket match in the T20 world cup.

The video was shared by cricketer Virender Sehwag with a hilarious but misleading caption. The tweet reads, "Relax Padosi , it's only a game."

Oh boy! Sehwag seems to be hitting the padosis aka Pakistanis up front.

Let's find the origin of the video.

FACT CHECK

NewsMeter ran a keyword search that led us to an extended version of the same video on YouTube. The original video tells a completely different story. It is titled "Angry Football Fan Smashes His TV and Laptop, Turkey – Croatia" and was uploaded in 2016.

After closely analysing the video, we found that it is an old video and not related to cricket. The original video includes a football match, not the T20 world cup. Hence, the video has been altered.

Moreover, we ran a reverse image search and found a report by Express on the incident. Titled "Football-mad fan destroys his own house following girlfriend's cruel Euro 2016 prank," the report explains that the scene was a man's reaction to a prank that did not turn out well for him.

"Turkish football fan Izzet Salti had wanted some peace and quiet when he sat down to watch a long-awaited Euro 2016 game. The man tuned in to watch his country play Croatia in their first game of the competition held in France. But, as the game wore on, Mr Salti became stressed as Turkey failed to make a breakthrough. When his girlfriend asked him a question, he suddenly lost his temper and demanded she leave the room," the report reads.

"Angered by his belligerent tone, the man's other half devised a cruel prank to get back at him. She filmed herself declaring a plan to prank her other half – using a special smartphone app that allows her to control the television. As she continuously switched on and off the TV the angered boyfriend lost his patience and broke the TV," it further reads.

We also found another report by cnet.com that said, "A Turkish woman decides to rig her boyfriend's TV so that it goes on and off during a Euro 2016 game. He loses it and smashes the TV…and a laptop for good measure. Now, 2 million people like it on Facebook."

It is evident that the video is not related to the recent Indo-Pakistan T20 world cup match.

Hence, the claim is false. Sehwag indeed needs to do a little homework.
