A video showing co-founder of Microsoft Bill Gates being cornered by the anchor on his contribution to the world has gone viral on the internet.
It shows the anchor accusing Gates of stealing the idea of Microsoft Windows from the creator of MS-DOS, Gary Kildahl, for a couple of dollars and questioning his credential in promoting COVID-19 vaccines.
A Facebook user shared the video and wrote, āBill Gates caught in a corner.ā
Several Twitter users also shared the video. (click here, here and here to see the post.)
Fact Check
NewsMeter found that the video has been doctored from an interview of Gates with Australian journalist Sarah Ferguson.
On performing a reverse image search of the videoās keyframe, we found the interview was published on ABC News (Australia) on 31 January, titled āBill Gates complained to tech companies about 'laughable' COVID-19 conspiracy theories.ā
We found Gates speaking in the interview on climate change, AI tools, philanthropy, misinformation around COVID-19, and dinners with Jeffrey Epstein, which he regrets. However, we didnāt find Ferguson cornering Gates by accusing him of stealing the idea of Microsoft Windows and questioning his credential in promoting COVID-19 vaccines.
ABC News (Australia) has also published an article in which Ferguson along with Myles Wearing has detailed all about her interview with Gates. We did not find mention of any of the questions seen in the viral video.
Hence, we conclude that the viral video has been doctored and is misleading.
