Viral video of Elon Musk bragging about firing ‘crybaby liberals’ is AI generated

Hyderabad: A video of Twitter CEO Elon Musk has gone viral on social media. In the video, Mr. Musk allegedly says, “I just unbanned President Trump’s Twitter, and I already have crybaby liberals threatening to quit Twitter. I’m going to fire them instead, but I want to do it in a fun way.”

NewsMeter found the claim to be false.

On carefully analyzing the video, we found that in the last few seconds, Mr Musk says, “I had my intern Tylor create this app called Parrot AI that uses Artificial Intelligence to clone voices.” It is followed by cloned voice clips of Donald Trump firing the candidates.

From this, it seems it is a promotional video for the newly-launched app called Parrot AI.

Moreover, on performing a search using Tin Eye, we found multiple results of the original image and clips of Elon Musk as used in the viral video.

Lastly, we could not find any conclusive media report on Elon Musk making such comments about firing Twitter employees.

Hence, it is evident that the viral video is a result of voice cloning with the help of AI and is not authentic.
