Hyderabad: A video reportedly showing a heavy snowfall at Makkah Haram Shareef grand mosque, also known as the Great Mosque of Mecca, is widely circulating on social media.

In the viral video, you can see heavy snowfall at the mosque and pilgrims enjoying the rare phenomena.

While some people are falling in love with the video, some viewers have expressed disbelief.

While it is rare to see snowfall in Mecca, is the video real? Let's find out.

Fact Check

We started our investigation by performing a keyword search. This led us to a tweet by the official Twitter handle of the spokesman of the National Meteorological Centre (NMC) of Saudi Arabia who dismissed the claim that the video was from the Great Mosque of Mecca.

We also found tweets stating the video is fake.

For further confirmation, we looked for media reports about the snowfall and found a tweet by the official handle of Saudi Gazzette. It said the video is fake.

The same reports can be seen on Times Now, Aaj Tak and The Express Tribune respectively.

It is evident that there was no snowfall at the Great Mosque of Mecca. The viral video is fake. Hence, the claim is false.
