Fact Check

NewsMeter performed a reverse image search of the video's keyframe and found it was uploaded on YouTube in 2020. According to the caption, the video shows Chinese mountain people.

Taking a cue from this, we again performed a reverse image of the video's keyframe using the keywords and found the same video published on Facebook by China Xinhua News, a Chinese state-controlled media.

As per the caption, the video shows the residents of a "cliff village" in Sichuan of China. The residents have been navigating the cliff for generations. The newly-constructed steel ladder has made the 800-meter climb much easier.

In 2020, CNN reported that Atule'er, a 200-year-old village in the Sichuan province of China, grabbed headlines around the world after photographs of school children descending the cliff on unsteady ladders went viral in 2016. It also said that the 84 households of Atule'er have left the ladders behind and have been relocated to apartment blocks closer to the town centre of Zhaojue county.

Finally, we found a video report by the South China Morning Post that said the residents of the 800-metre high "Cliff Village" of China have been resettled in the town. The video also shows visuals of people traversing the cliff up and down via the steel ladder.

It is evident that the viral video is from the cliff village of the Sichuan province of China. Hence, the claim that is from Arunachal Pradesh is false.
