A video of PM Narendra Modi purportedly ignoring former president Ram Nath Kovind is rolling over social media. Users claim that Modi disrespected Kovind at the farewell event.
The video was shared by AAP leader Sanjay Singh with the caption, "Such an insult. Very Sorry Sir. These people are like this, your term is over, now they will not even look at you."
The same has also been shared by Congress leader VirendraChaudhary on Twitter with the caption, "The word camera jeevi is not unparliamentary. Where is your attention, Modiji? I am here,"
Fact Check
The farewell of Kovind took place on 23rd July 22. NewsMeter searched for the original video of the event and found a video uploaded on the official channel of PM Narendra Modi.
In the original video, it is clear that PM Modi did not disrespect Kovind. Both greeted each other in a dignified matter and moved ahead with other dignitaries.
Newsmeter also found the same video uploaded by Official Doordarshan National's YouTube channel, which again shows that PM Narendra Modi did not ignore the former president in his farewell ceremony.
NewsMeterthen looked out for pictures of the event and found a photograph of both dignitaries greeting each other in one of the pictures uploaded by the official Twitter handle of the President of India.
Hence, it is evident that the video has been cropped and edited at the point where PM Modi was posing for a picture. The clip where Modi was greeting Kovind was trimmed out to spread the fake news.
The video is edited. The claim is false.
