Fact Check
NewsMeter found that the viral video is clipped and is being shared with missing context.
We skimmed through the post and found several users commenting that the video is clipped. A user, Rajesh Shahu, shared the extended version of the same clip and said that people should see the complete clip.
Rahul Gandhi can be heard saying, “It was not Hanuman who burned Lanka but the arrogance of Ravana.
Next, we looked for Rahul Gandhi’s speech on the official YouTube channel of Sansad TV. We found a 37-minute video published by the channel, titled “Rahul Gandhi's Remarks | Discussion on Motion of No-Confidence | 09 August 2023.”
After 35 minutes in the video, he says, “Ravana used to listen to two people—Meghnath and Kumbhkaran. Similarly, PM Modi listens only to Amit Shah and Adani.”
He added, “Hanuman did not burn Lanka; the arrogance of Ravana burned Lanka. Ram did not kill Ravana; his arrogance killed him.”
He further accused the Modi-led government of sprinkling kerosene and burning the “Bharat Mata” in Manipur, Haryana, and the whole country.
A metaphoric remark of Rahul Gandhi about Hanuman not burning Lanka but Ravana’s arrogance is being shared by clipping the video to mislead the people. Hence, we conclude that the viral video is clipped, not showing the full context.
