Hyderabad: A video of an overcrowded train ā€“ full of people on every surface, from the compartments to the engine to the roof ā€“ is making rounds on social media. Those sharing the video claim that the video is from the North Indian states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the video is from Bangladesh.

Upon a reverse image search of the videoā€™s keyframe, we found the video on YouTube, uploaded on May 2, 2022. As per the title, the video shows a packed train during the Eid festival in Bangladesh.

We also found the video on Instagram, posted by the Iranian actor Reza Tavakoli on Instagram on July 14, 2022. The actor mentioned in the caption that the video is from Bangladesh.

Daily Mail carried screengrabs from the viral in a report published on May 13, 2022. It reported that the footage shows thousands of people travelling in a packed train in Bangladesh after the Eid holiday.

We noticed BD Train Express written in screengrabs carried by the Daily Mail. We searched for BD Train Express and found a YouTube channel by the same name. The channel posted the longer version of the video on May 1, 2022, titled ā€˜When people risk their lives to return home.ā€™ As per the description, the video was shot in Balashpur, Bangladesh.


Hence, we conclude that the video is from Bangladesh, not India. The claim is false.
