Fact Check: Viral video of the biggest cake is not from Anant Ambani's pre-wedding bash

Hyderabad: A video of a huge three-tier castle-themed cake is being widely circulated on social media. Users claim that the `biggest' cake was the star attraction at Anant Ambani-Radhika Merchant's pre-wedding bash.

An X user shared the post with the caption,” Ambani ne Cake banwaya hai ya Mahal, Btw Is cake ko cut kaise karne ka (Did Ambani order a cake or a castle? By the way, how to cut this cake).”

The illustrious pre-wedding celebration of the youngest scion of the Ambani family continued for 3 days at Gujarat's Jamnagar. Social media apps were filled with several videos from the celebrations. Against this backdrop, a video of a castle cake is being circulated on social media.

Fact Check

NewsMeter found the claim to be false. The video of the castle-themed cake is old.

We started our investigation by performing a keyword search taking the keyframes from the viral video and found the same video uploaded on the Instagram handle of Unilad with the caption, ‘Looks like something from Hogwarts’ dated October 30, 2023. We further found the same video uploaded by multiple Instagram users as well from 2023.

As the video has been surfacing on the internet even before Ambani’s pre-wedding bash, it is evident that the video is unrelated to Amban’s celebrations at Jamnagar.

Moving forward, a keyword search led us to a media report on News18 titled, ‘Watch: Couple Celebrates Their Wedding With Massive Hogwarts Castle-Themed Cake’ carrying the stills of the cake dated October 31, 2023. According to the News18 report, the cake was designed to replicate the iconic castle from J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series. However, the report did not mention the whereabouts of the wedding.

Not only this, we found the video was quite viral even before the pre-wedding celebrations of Anant and Radhika Merchant.

NewsMeter could not independently trace out the exact location of the viral video. However, the video is old and unrelated to the pre-wedding bash at Jamnagar.
