Fact Check
NewsMeter found that the video shows Jyoti Yarraji winning the racing competition in the Asian Athletics Championship 2023, not the Asian Games 2023.
Upon minutely observing the video, we noticed the banner of the Asian Athletics Championship 2023 at 0.20 seconds and 1.30 minutes.
With this cue, we ran a keyword search and came across a report by Sportstar of July 14, 2023. It said Jyoti Yarraji had won gold in womenās 100m hurdles at the 25th Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok.
It also mentioned that the 23-year-old Indian athlete won the competition, overcoming rain and a strong challenge from Japanās seasoned Asuka Terada and Masumi Aoki.
We also found the viral video posted by the official X handle of the Sports Authority of India and by the Union Minister for I&B and Youth Affairs & Sports, Anurag Thakur, on July 13, 2023.
We again ran a keyword search and found Jyoti Yarrajiās name for the 100m hurdle, featured in the list of Indian athletes who qualified for Asian Games 2023.
According to the schedule on the website of the Asian Games, womenās 100m hurdles, in which Jyoti will be participating, is scheduled for October 1, 2023.
Hence, we conclude that the video shows athlete Jyoti Yarraji winning a racing competition in the Asian Athletics Championship 2023, not the Asian Games 2023, hence the claim is false.
