Viral video of slime factory shared as fake egg manufacturing unit

Hyderabad: A video is being shared on social media with the claim that shows footage from an artificial egg factory. The video shows two women pouring a slimy white substance into clear egg-shaped plastic containers. The video has made people suspect that the Chinese are manufacturing fake plastic eggs.

NewsMeter found that the claim is false as the eggs shown in the video are merely toys and are not meant for consuming.

On performing a simple reverse image search, we found an article on The Observers that carried the same visuals. It was titled “No, the Chinese aren’t trying to poison us with plastic eggs.” It said the viral video shows the manufacturing of egg-like slime pack not fake eggs.

We also found a YouTube video where a girl can be seen playing with the same egg-shaped slime being manufactured in the viral video.

According to the Shanghai-based news organisation Jiefang Daily, the video shows the making of a kind of toy egg for spoof.

We also searched for the slime egg toy online and found similar products on the e-commerce site Alibaba.com.

From this, it is evident that the viral video does not show footage from a factory manufacturing fake eggs. Hence, the claim is false.
