Hyderabad: An unverified image of the opinion survey by NDTV Poll of Polls is doing rounds on social media with the claim that it shows Congress securing more than 75 seats in the ensuing Telangana State Assembly elections.
The caption to the Facebook post reads, ā#Congress75inTelangana BREAKING NOW - NDTV Poll of Polls gives Majority to Congress in TELANGANA. (sic)ā
The data from the viral image was also shared by Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate on her Facebook account.
Fact Check
NewsMeter found that the viral poll prediction was fake.
We started our investigation by performing a keyword search to find relevant media reports on the same but could not find any media outlet covering the victory of Congress in Telangana or anything related to the election results declaration.
We also came across a report on Zee Business stating that a complaint has been made that the Congress has been placing advertisements in Telangana media with the aim of influencing the upcoming Assembly polls, scheduled for November 30. The report also stated that the BRS party has brought attention to the same issue regarding the poll panel. With this, it is evident that election results have not been declared yet and the viral image is fake.
We also found a clarification by NDTV on their verified X account stating that NDTV has not carried out any such poll survey.
The NDTV tweet reads, ā#FakeNewsAlert | NDTV has not carried any poll of polls for #Telangana2023. Please donāt spread fake news.ā
