Fact Check:
The claim is misleading.
A website called Tamil Samayam contacted the school education department about the viral post. The department said, "Work is underway to register the attendance of teachers through smart applications. However, the news that the salary will be deducted if the teachers do not register their attendance by 10 a.m through the app from 1 August is not true. Nothing of the sort has been announced." The school education department issued an order stating that the headmaster should be responsible for all incidents in schools. In response to the Kallakurichi incident, the department of school education sent a circular containing 77 guidelines to all schools. Currently, the education department issued an action notification to register the attendance of teachers through the app from 1 August.
This viral post comes following the death of a class 12 student in Tamil Nadu's Kallakurichi that sparked violent protests on 18 July when hundreds, including former students and the family of the girl, vandalised the institute and clashed with the police, according to a report by India Today.
A report by DT NEXT published on 1 July 2018, titled "On-duty teachers can't bunk as the government brings app attendance," said the school department introduced the attendance system to ensure teachers maintain 100% attendance throughout the academic year.
TN DIPR fact check had also debunked the claim.
Hence, the claim that the salaries of teachers will be deducted if they don't register their attendance through a smart application by 10 a.m from 1 August is misleading. It is true that teachers have to register their attendance through an app, but their salaries will not be deducted.
