Farmer crushed to death by lorry for obstructing sand mafia

Mahabubnagar: A farmer of Tirumalapur village in Mahabubnagar district of Telangana was crushed to death by a sand lorry on Wednesday, July 30. His deaths has sparked outraged as the villagers alleged it was a murder.

The villagers said that the deceased, Narasimhulu, had obstructed the illegal transport of sand from his field for which he was crushed to death by the sand mafia. The villagers and relatives of the deceased broke the windshield of the truck and protested with the body of Narasimhulu. They requested the authorities to check the illegal sand trade in the village.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police of Mahabubnagar, Sridhar, told NewsMeter, “I am at the scene of offence and the primary investigation reveals that it's an accident case. The lorry that was involved in the accident was already booked 3 times in the last 6 months and the owner has paid a fine of Rs 1 lakh to the Mandal Revenue Officer. The kin of the deceased are staging a dharna demanding compensation to the bereaved family from the lorry owner. They have also filed a petition and an FIR also will be filed soon.”

Tirumalapur village is well known for its sand mafia. Last year, in a similar incident, a farmer was crushed to death by the sand mafia for not allowing the illegal transportation of sand.
