Fire breaks out in City Civil Courts complex canteen in Purana Haveli

Hyderabad: Fire broke out in the canteen at the City Civil Courts Complex located at Purana Haveli in the Old City of Hyderabad on Thursday. No casualties have been reported. A major mishap was averted as the canteen has been closed owing to the closure of courts due to the lockdown.

Fire tenders from the Moghalpura fire station rushed to the spot and put off the fire. Meanwhile, a case has also been registered by the police and investigation is on to know the cause of fire.

Workers present on the premises noticed smoke coming out from the canteen and alerted the fire and police teams. Even before the fire tenders could arrive at the spot, thick smoke billowed from the canteen and spread all over the court complex, triggering panic in the area.

Fire officials told NewsMeter that the fire was contained in less than half an hour within the canteen area only and it did not spread to other areas on the court premises.

However, the area has been cordoned off, as a precautionary measure. The canteen has been closed since the lockdown came into force and short circuit is suspected to have caused the fire, officials said.
