First case of CoronaVirus local transmission reported in AP

Vijayawada A 49-year-old woman, a close contact of a COVID-19 patient of 65- year-old man, was confirmed positive on Sunday. This the first case of local transmission in Andhra Pradesh. The number of new CoronaVirus cases spurt to 6 in AP.

The primary contact does not have any travel history to COVID-19 affected country, but came in contact with a COVID-19 patient. Senior officials from the AP Health department who termed it first case of 'local transmission', have also stressed in the same breath, the importance of social distancing to contain spread of the virus.

The 49 year old, is the first female patient to be tested positive in AP, and undergoing treatment in Government Hospital for Chest and Communicable diseases.

Sources with AP state health department, confirmed that many suspects are from Allipuram, as three positive patients hail from the same place. The patient (5) would have come in contact with the 65 year old man after he returned from Saudi Arabia.

According to the, AP Medical and Health officials, currently 11 persons from Allipuram are undergoing treatment in the government chest hospital and reports of seven were awaited.

In Paderu, three persons who traveled abroad, are in isolation wards in area hospital and their reports are awaited.

It may be recalled that on Saturday, Krishna and East Godavari districts reported each one positive Coronavirus case. A 23-year old youngsters who returned to Vijayawada city of Krishna district from France a few days ago was tested positive Coronavirus. The contact persons of the youngster ( Father and Mother) were also shifted to the isolation ward in Government Hospital in Vijayawada and they were kept observations.

In another case, A 22- year-old youngster who returned to Rajahmundry of East Godavari district from London was tested positive.

On March 12, 2020, AP reported its first confirmed case of the Covid-19 in Nellore City. A student who had returned from Italy to Nellore tested positive for the Coronavirus.
