Five arrested in Rs. 20-lakh robbery case in Vizag

Visakhapatnam: The Vizag police arrested five persons on 7 September in the Rs. 20-lakh robbery case and recovered Rs. 12.5 lakh from them.

The arrested have been identified as Attada Seetharam alias Chandrasekhar Reddy, a real-estate broker from West Bengal; Ambati Santhosh, a real-estate broker and resident of Vizag; G. Muthyala Naidu, an employee of the Visakha Defense Academy; K. Shiva Durga Rao, a driver from Guntur; and P. Gnaneshwar Rao, a resident of Vizag. The prime accused, Sudharshan Reddy, is still absconding.

V. Suresh Babu, the DCP (crimes), said Koteswara Rao, a real estate agent, lodged a complaint with the PM Palem police claiming that he had been robbed of Rs. 20 lakh. He and his brother-in-law, Y. Chitti Raju, met a real estate broker Chandrasekhar Reddy near the international cricket stadium at PM Palem in Vizag city on 17 August. They were planning to buy some gold bars from Chandrasekhar Reddy at a price lower than the market price. Koteswara Rao was carrying Rs. 20 lakh cash for the gold.

While the transaction was taking place, a white Innova with a police siren reached the spot and two persons in police uniform started questioning Koteswara Rao on the pretext of vehicle check. During the whole episode, Chandrasekhar managed to steal the cash and the three escaped.

Chandrasekhar was earlier involved in several cheating cases in Kolkata in West Bengal, Tekkali in Srikakulam district, Anakapalle, Sabbavaramm, and Gopalapatnam. The police nabbed Chandrasekhar in Kolkata and the others in Vizag city.
