Five killed in car crash on Nagarjuna Sagar highway in Nalgonda district

Nalgonda: Five youngsters were killed when their car crashed on the Nagarjuna Sagar highway in Nalgonda district in the wee hours of Friday.

Three of the deceased were identified as driver Nagendra, Rajesh and Ganesh. The identity of the two others is yet to be established.

Police suspect the driver dozed off at the wheel leading to the fatal crash. The victims were on their way to Nagarjuna Sagar when the mishap occurred.

According to the police, the accident happened near Dhairyapuri Tanda of Chintapally Mandal in the district. Police suspect that the vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a pipeline pillar. Such was the impact that the car turned turtle and fell into the pit.

All five people on board died on the spot. Villagers and police rushed to the spot and started a rescue operation. Due to the impact, the bodies were stuck inside the vehicle. Rescuers had to cut through the mangled remains of the car to retrieve the bodies. A case has been registered at the Chintapally police station.
