For a greener commute effort at UoH, E-auto rickshaws pressed in

Hyderabad: University of Hyderabad (UoH), which boasts of a large campus and immense bio-diversity o go with it, is home to over 75 varieties of bird, idyllic lakes, large green covers and rock formations that give to it a resplendent natural beauty.

In the recent meeting with stakeholders on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by all United Nations members, participants articulated several important points covering areas like e-waste recycling, water management, auditing of our water/electricity, greener commute, eco-club, Multidisciplinary activities under IoE, towards which the University ought to make a contributory difference.

Environment-friendly E-Auto Rickshaw services on the UoH campus commenced on December 6 to tremendous applause.

In this way, the university strives to combat the extremely detrimental carbon-emitting of conventional fuel vehicles. This initiative speaks of its endeavours in mitigating environmental challenges that exist and significantly improve air quality

In order to preserve the natural habitat and to keep its campus pollution-free, the University of Hyderabad has taken the lead, albeit a small step towards achieving the larger mission of a ‘greener’ campus.

Those keen on its upkeep and sustenance can contribute towards their mobility by greener commute, E-auto-rickshaw. Its services will be available from 8 am to 6 pm Monday to Saturday against a flat fare of Rs. 10. The fares have to be paid only by e-wallets (Paytm) or through UPI. The current routes link major buildings, departments, hostels and the library.

The service is being run by Transvahan Technologies India Private Limited, Bangalore on an ‘Own, Operate and Maintain’ basis.
