Hyderabad: A safaikaramchari at Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and her husband have tested positive for Covid-19 at Meerpet in Hyderabad on Tuesday

Hailing from Sirla Hills of Almasuguda, the couple was among 37 persons who tested positive in the city on Tuesday.

This could be the first case in the GHMC, which is at the forefront of the fight against COVID in the city.

On Tuesday, 51 persons including 37 persons residing in different parts of the city falling under the GHMC limits were tested positive. Besides, 14 migrants, who had returned from Mumbai, also tested positive.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the 48-year-old woman working at Bagh Amberpet developed COVID like symptoms. She and her 52-year-old husband, a construction worker, were later tested for COVID.

On Tuesday, their tests came back positive. Their 13 primary contacts have been identified and shifted to quarantine centers. They include six colleagues and other family members. The source of the infection is yet to be identified.

Authorities have now declared Sirla Hills and Prashanthi Hills as containment zones. Revenue officials visited the area and launched a sanitization drive.

Police have also cautioned people to stay at home and not move out unless there is an emergency.
