Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to collect the food from the people and distribute it among the needy in a bid to maintain the social distancing amid the lockdown.

GHMC has asked donors not to distribute the food directly to the needy given the lockdown. Some social activists in the city were going around the city to donate food packets to the poor.

GHMC has asked the donors to contact 9493120244 or 7093906449. The donors can also tweet to @PDUCD_GHMC with their location so that the GHMC officials can collect food from their doorsteps and donate it to the needy.

GHMC has arranged 10 vans to facilitate food distribution.

“A special wing under GHMC Additional commissioner Priyanka has been formed, who will take responsibility for collection and donation of food,” said Mayor Bonthu Rammohan in a statement.

GHMC has also kept Annapurna stalls open to serve food to the poor and needy for free. The city police have also joined in and donated food and water packets to the migrant laborers.

Meanwhile, Enforcement Vigilance and Disaster Management wing of GHMC has disinfected all the arterial roads in the city.
