GoI doesn’t understand the new method of protest started by Kashmiris: Hasnain Masoodi

Srinagar: The National Conference has indicated that it won’t take part in the upcoming BDC or the Block Development Council polls until the detained leadership is released.

National Conference MP Justice Hasnain Masoodi, who met with party President Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah on Sunday along with Akbar Lone fellow MP from National Conference, said that the party will not take part in any political process as long as the party’s leadership remains detained. “There is no scope for a political process right now as the whole leadership of the national conference has been detained”.

Since the Supreme Court decided to examine the constitutional validity of this exercise (the revocation of article 370), admitted the hearing and referred it to a larger bench, so should the government of India, as a matter of constitutional prosperity, put everything on hold and give the Supreme Court a chance. Otherwise, it would be pre empting the Supreme Court's judgement, said Hasnain Masoodi.

Hasnain Masoodi also stated that the government administration is instigating people to resort to violence by not appreciating the non-violent agitation launched by Kashmir, post the abrogation of article 370.

“They don’t understand the new method of protest launched by the people of Kashmir. It is believed that not a single bullet was fired in the last two months in Kashmir, do they want to tell the people that their agitation will not be registered until there is violence?”, questioned Hasnain Masoodi.

Hasnain Masoodi, who is a retired judge, said that he had been seeking a meeting with Farooq Abdullah for many days now to solicit his opinion about the legal action that can be taken against his detention order.

“We are examining how to counter the detention of Farooq Abdullah legally,” he said.Hasnain Masoodi said that he had gone to meet the mother of Mehbooba Mufti, former chief minister and PDP chief, who was also under house arrest, “I was not allowed to meet her though she is not under detention technically”, Hasnain Masoodi said.
