Gold heist: Burglars decamp with 7 kg jewellery, Rs 30 L in Vijayawada

Vijayawada: In a major heist in the heart of Vijayawada city, burglars wearing masks decamped with 7 kg gold ornaments and Rs 30 lakh cash from Sai Charan Jewellery at I Town area in broad daylight on Friday.

The police said that the burglars, who wore masks, had gained entry into the shop on Friday morning and removed all gold ornaments from the jewellery shop (which was located in the second floor of a building).

The burglars attacked a staff member of the shop, tied his hands and legs with a rope and decamped with gold jewellery and cash, which was in the shop.

Based on information, city police chief B. Srinivas visited the place of crime and he formed five specials teams to identify and nab the burglars.

The gold merchants said that the burglars also stole the CCTV DVR box to hide their identity. It is being suspected that someone known to the owner of the jewellery shop are involved in the crime as they have the idea about where the gold and cash are kept and also the location of the CCTV DVR Box.

The police said that they are examining the CCTV footage in the area to identify the accused. They exuded confidence that they would nab the accused.
