Gopichand’s Chanakya earns Rs 15 crore in pre-release business
By Prakash Aditya Published on 2 Oct 2019 12:51 PM GMTHyderabad: Recently, Tollywood movies have been able to make good business much before their release. Gopichand’s spy thriller Chanakya follows the same pattern. This proves that not just big wigs like Saaho, but relatively smaller films can earn good money from pre-release non-theatrical rights. With Telugu movies having high demand in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Odisha, the makers are leaving no stone unturned in cashing the opportunity.
Believe it or not, Chanakya made a whopping Rs 15 crore from Hindi-dubbed rights, Telugu satellite rights, and digital rights. According to sources, the Hindi-dubbed rights alone fetched Rs 9 crore, and Star MAA acquired Telugu satellite rights for Rs 4 crore. Digital rights went for Rs 2 crore.
Whether or not the movie has a strong script to impress the audience, trade analysts believe that Chanakya will surely do a decent business throughout the week thanks to Dussehra.
Directed by Tamil filmmaker Thiru, Chanakya features Mehreen Pirzada and Zareen Khan in the female lead roles. Bollywood actors Rajesh Khattar and Upen Patel will be seen in negative shades. Anil Sunkara is bankrolling the movie under AK Entertainments.
