GST searches; Tollywood actor Manchu Vishnus Spring Board school inspected

Hyderabad: Director General of GST Intelligence sleuths of Hyderabad on Wednesday conducted massive searches across the city on schools, steel traders, chit fund companies and builders to find out the Service Tax and GST evasion. The prominent among searched were Tollywood actor Manchu Vishnu owned Spring Board Academy and another school named Chirec School.

Manchu Vishnu is the chairman of Spring Board. GST sleuths are still asertaining is there any evasion at Spring Board. Sources in DGGI said that "The searches have identified evasion of service tax before 2017 pre-GST regime and as well as the post-GST regime. Till 6.00 pm as the searches are on we have detected around 40 crore evasion in different locations in the city,"

An official said,"Some of the contracts, international schools, builders, hospitality industry didn't pay service tax, but they joined the regime. They were under the impression they will not come under the scanner for service tax non-payment. we have identified several of such companies,"

Officials inspected around 20 locations in Medchal, Malkajgiri, Khairatabad, Banjara Hills, Begumpet and Lingampally.

GST sleuths are verifying the documents they seized in various locations. GST sleuths said that the searches would continue for the next two days. DGGI has earlier unearthed several input tax credit scams.
