Hajipur rapist moves High Court to appeal against death sentence

Hyderabad: The 29-year old Marri Srinivas Reddy, the main accused in the sensational Hajipur rape and murder case, moved the Telangana High Court challenging the death sentence awarded to him by the Nalgonda first additional district sessions judge.

Srinivas Reddy filed an appeal before the High Court challenging the order of the sessions court.

In his petition, he urged the HC to set aside the order of the first additional district sessions judge. The High Court issued notices while dealing with the proceedings of the sessions court for the confirmation of the death sentence. The HC, on 10 March, issued notice to Marri Srinivas Reddy.

Srinivas, who was the sole accused in the rape and subsequent murder of three minor girls aged 11, 14 , and 17 years, was found guilty by the Nalgonda first additional district and sessions judge Justice S.V.V. Natha Reddy under various Sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO). Srinivas had committed the gruesome offences between 2015 and 2019 in Hajipur village of Bhongir district.
