Harassed for not clearing debt, three of family committed suicide in Srikakulam

Srikakulam: Fed up with the harassment by a moneylender, three members of a family committed suicide by consuming pesticides at Kothapeta village under Jalumuru Mandal in Srikakulam district.

The deceased have been identified as K Sankar Rao, K Kalavathi and their daughter K Geethanjali.

Locals said Sankar Rao had borrowed a loan from a private money lender a few months back. However, he turned defaulter and was unable to repay the loan and interest.

A few days back, the moneylender humiliated Sankar Rao for failing to clear the debt and took away his bike.

Apparently upset with the harassment, Sankar Rao along with his family members consumed pesticide and ended their lives.

When locals found Sankar Rao and his family members in an unconscious state, they shifted them to a hospital at Narasannapeta. However, they died in the hospital.

Police have registered a case and put the investigation on the fast-track. The bodies were shifted to the government hospital for postmortem
