RSVP student commits suicide in Tirupati

Tirupati: A third-year student of Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidya Peetha (RSVP), Tirupati, committed suicide by hanging himself in his hostel room here on 17 March. Abhilash Tripathi, a resident of Balangir district in Odisha, was reportedly suffering from a psychological disorder.

According to the west division sub-inspector B. Praveen Kumar, Abhilash was studying Sastriya studies at the RSVP and lived in the varsity hostel, Seshachala. The police said he was suffering from a rare psychological disorder and was under medication. The medical officer who observed his condition had advised him to live with his parents for a while till he recovered but he had returned to the hostel 10 days ago to attend his classes.

On Tuesday morning, his roommates left the hostel room by 8.30 a.m while Abhilash stayed back since he had a class only at 10.30 a.m. One of his roommates came to the room at 11 a.m to collect his books and noticed that it was locked from inside. He knocked on the door but there was no response. Students broke the doors and found Abhilash hanging from the ceiling. West division police moved the body to the government hospital for postmortem and registered a case. Investigation is underway.
