Harmanpreet Kaur takes an absolute blinder against the Windies in Antigua

Hyderabad: Harmanpreet Kaur, Vice-Captain of the Indian women's Cricket team, plucked a one-handed blinder at the boundary line to dismiss West Indies Captain, Stafanie Taylor for 94 in the first ODI of the three-match series at Antigua.

It was on the last two balls of the final over of the West-Indies innings when skipper Stafanie Taylor smashed Ekta Bisht for a six on the fifth ball of the last over and tried doing the same on the last ball as she lofted Ekta straight over her head when Harmanpreet was fielding at the boundary line. It was at that moment, Harmanpreet judged the timing of her jump rightly and plucked the ball mid-air to convert what was a possible six to a spectacular catch.

Despite the Wonderful catch and restricting the windies for an average total of 225, The Indian women weren't able to reach the finishing line as they fell short by one run.

Openers Priya Punia and Jemimah Rodrigues put India in a formidable position by having an opening partnership of 78. Priya scored a brilliant 75 along with Jemimah scoring 41. No one else from the team could carry the momentum forward as wickets kept falling at regular intervals. No other batswomen could stay at the crease for long and build partnerships as the Indian batting line up collapsed from 124/2 to 224 all-out. Among the other batswomen, Punam Raut and Mithali Raj scored 22 and 20 respectively to get India closer to the target of 226 but failed to do so.

Anisa Mohammed was the pick of the West-Indian bowlers as she picked five wickets which included 2 wickets in the final over to make sure India ended up on the losing side.

The second WODI between India and Westindies will be played at Sir Vivian Richards stadium as Mithali Raj and the team will look forward to level the series 1-1.
