HMWSSB blacklists contractor for negligence;14-month-old victim in ICU

Hyderabad: HMWSSB (Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board) managing director, M Dana Kishore has suspended a manager for showing negligence at the site of a manhole which resulted in a 14-month-old child suffering from injuries after he fell in a said manhole on Wednesday.

The SHO, HMWSSB had submitted a report wherein it was reported that a 14-month-old has fallen into an excavated sewerage manhole resulting in several injuries to the child. Further reported that during the inquiry, there were several recorded statements of several residents, wherein it was deposed that they had made several complaints regarding the uncovered manhole in their area to the concerned HMWSSB officials. But neither the HMWSSB officials nor the contractor in-charge of the manhole assignment had not responded in time.

Therefore, the director HMWSSB has requested to initiate necessary action by blacklisting the contractor, i.e. M/s Keerthy Enterprises for not completing the work on time and keeping it open without proper barricading.

A 14-month-old child named Deexith fell into a manhole while playing with his brother around 5:30 pm. His father, who is engaged as a daily labourer had gone for work, and his mother had gone to the washroom when the incident happened.

Speaking to Newsmeter regarding the child’s current health status, Tirupathi said – “He has swallowed the dirt in the manhole. The lungs are filled with water. The doctors are examining his health and will soon give an update.”
