Home Minister Amit Shah tests positive for COVID-19
By Newsmeter Network Published on 2 Aug 2020 11:29 AM GMTHyderabad: The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, announced on his official Twitter account, on Sunday, August 2nd, that he has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. He also requested those who had come in contact with him to isolate and test themselves for the virus.
The cabinet minister wrote, "I experienced the initial symptoms of COVID-19 and got myself tested for the virus. The report was positive. I feel alright but the doctors have asked me to get admitted in the hospital. I request everyone who has come in contact with me to self-isolate and get themselves tested at the earliest."
This comes after Cabinet Minister from Uttar Pradesh, Kamal Rani Varun, succumbed to COVID in the wee hours of Sunday. He died at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow.
Actor Amitabh Bachan tested negative for the coronavirus on Sunday and was discharged from Mumbai's Nanavati Hospital. He is currently in home quarantine. His son and actor Abhishek Bachan, however, tested positive and will be admitted to the hospital for a longer period of time.
The novel coronavirus has affected over 17 lakh citizens in the country, and has claimed the lives of 37, 452.
As of 2nd August, the total number of positive cases in the country stand at 17,57,393.
