Housefull franchise: A brief look at its collection history

Finally, after a long wait of more than three years, the fourth instalment of the Akshay Kumar-starrer Housefull is back, and fans are excited. Besides Akshay, the film has Riteish Deshmukh, Bobby Deol, Kriti Sanon, Pooja Hegde, Kriti Kharbanda, Rana Daggubati, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and others in lead roles. The recent trailer has become viral in social media and among fans. Meanwhile, let us take a look at how the previous parts of this franchise have done at the box office.

Housefull: The first part hit 1,700 screens on April 30, 2010. The film featured Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Deepika Padukone, Lara Dutta, and Arjun Rampal among others. Collecting Rs 9.32 crore on its opening day, the film recorded Rs 47.35 crore in its first week. Housefull did a lifetime business of Rs 72.24 crore and grossed $4 million in the overseas market.

Housefull 2: This one was released on April 6, 2012, across 2,650 screens. It opened to Rs 12.19 crore on the first day and collected around Rs 61.75 crore in its first week. The second instalment hit the Rs 100-crore mark, after receiving Rs 111.79 crore at the box office. It also grossed $6.7 million in the overseas market.

Housefull 3: The hilarious third part hit 3,650 screens on June 3, 2016. This instalment minted more money at the box office than its prequels. It opened to Rs 15.24 crore, hitting double digits on the first day. The third part went on to collect Rs 80.02 crore in its first week. It wasn’t surprising when the movie made it to the 100-crore club in its second week. However, it marked a lower net gross than the second part. Housefull 3 did a lifetime business of Rs 108.07 crore and grossed $6.6 million in the overseas market.
