Hyderabad:Inspector of Police P. Balvantaiah, serving at the Jubilee Hills police station under Hyderabad Commissionerate, surrendered before the Anti Corruption Bureau, 48 hours after he went absconding. He escaped from duty from the time his conduit sub-inspector P Sudheer Reddy was caught red-handed while accepting bride on Thursday.

Sleuths of Anti-Corruption-Bureau (ACB) caught Sudheer Reddy while accepting Rs 50,000 bribe and two ā€˜VAT 69ā€™ liquor bottles from a spot at Jubilee Hills Road No 10, a stoneā€™s throw away from the police station.

The ACBā€™s tactic to confirm P. Balvantaiahā€™s involvement was well-designed and executed with precision

On being apprehended, the sub-inspector spilled the beans and told the sleuths and mediators that he was acting upon instructions from his boss (referring to P Balvantaiah)

To verify the veracity of SIā€™s statement, he was made to call Balvantaiah and inform him about having received the bribe amount. The conversation between the SI and Inspector that was recorded for evidence purposes goes like this;

SI: Sir, I have collected Rs 50,000 from Motaparthi Vamsi Krishna.

Inspector: Why only Rs 50,000 when Rs one lakh was demanded. Ok, anyway take it and what about the other girlā€™s case?

Investigators told NewsMeter that Balvantaiah not only confirmed his involvement but also revealed that kickbacks were demanded in another case.

ā€˜The complainant told ACB that it was the Inspector who directed them to the SI by saying he will ā€˜advise youā€™ on how to bail you out of the case. The SI then demanded Rs one lakh for station bail and to revoke Section 406 of IPCā€™ said the Investigator.

How did the Inspector get a tip-off?

On Friday, when ACB sleuths along with sub-inspector were approaching the Jubilee Hills stretch and seeing them one of the staffers tipped off the Inspector who was on bandobast duty. The cop went absconding since then however surrendered before the ACB sleuths.
