How Chittoor police recovered Rs 8 Cr worth phones from Kanjarbhat gang

Chittoor: The district police busted Kanjarbhat inter-state robbers gang and arrested three of its members besides recovering stolen mobile phones worth Rs 8 crore.

Superintendent of Police, Chittoor, Senthil Kumar said the gang was involved in highway robberies in Andhra Pradesh, Karnakata, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.

Chittoor police chief said three members of the gang have been arrested. They have been identified as Rohith Jalla, 22, Ankith Jahanja, 25, and Ram Gade, 25, hailing from Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.

Kumar said on August 25, the trio intercepted the container transporting 15,000 mobile phones from Chennai to Bhiwandi on the National Highway in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. Later they decamped with the devices.

Based on the concrete information, Chittoor police conducted an operation in the forest area of Madhya Pradesh for over two hours. Police later managed to recover the stolen mobile phones.

The investigation into the case has revealed that the gang attacked the driver and stole the mobile phones. Kumar said police had formed three special teams to nab the accused and recover the stolen property.

Police said one police team examined the CCTV footage at various places along the highway to trace the truck. Another police team visited Dewas, Ujjain, Indore, and Shajapur area in Madhya Pradesh to identify the gang members. The third team successfully identified the people who received the stolen mobile phones near Bangladesh and Nepal border.

Kumar said that they have recovered 7,522 mobile phones worth Rs eight crore and seized a truck and three two-wheelers from the trio. The investigation is on to identify some more members of the gang.
