Hyderabad: Hyderabad police have arrested a youth for posting a fake Telangana Excise Department GO on social media platforms

Identified as Sunny, he had forged Telangana Excise Department GO stating that wine shops will be open for one hour from March 29 in view of the lockdown.

ā€œHe had created a fake GO that the excise department had started the sale of wine. He will be sent to jail now. This is a warning to those who circulate fake news,ā€ said Anjani Kumar, City police commissioner.

The GO soon became viral and booze lovers started celebrating the ā€˜decisionā€™ of the excise department. The excise department later issued a clarification that the GO copy being circulated was fake and urged people not to believe rumors.

The department issued a statement stating all wine shops and bars shall remain closed till April 15 in line with government orders

Officials also complained to Cybercrime police station about the crime. During the investigation, police traced the IP address of fake GO. Based on technical evidence, police arrested Sunny, a resident of Uppal, on Tuesday.
