Hyderabad city cops caught smuggling liquor during lockdown at Vanasthalipuram

Hyderabad: Rachakonda Police have arrested two cops for smuggling alcohol during lockdown at Vanasthalipuram in Hyderabad on Sunday.

Identified as R Anil Kumar, a home guard working with Hyderabad’s traffic wing at Malakpet and Ulligaddala Vijay, a constable working with Nampally police station, they were caught during checking at a check post in Vanasthalipuram.

A Venkataiah, Inspector Vanasthalipuram police station told the media that Anil Kumar hailed from Suryapet district in Telangana. On Saturday he had gone home.

On Sunday he was returning in his car, TS 29G 6198 when he was stopped for checking at a check post near Panama junction. Police recovered 36 bottles of alcohol.

In another incident, Vijay was caught with 23 bottles of liquor. Police sources said he was posted in Nampally police station and residing at Musheerabad. Hailing from Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, he had gone home three days ago.

On his return, he purchased liquor from Nalgonda town. Police during checking recovered 23 bottles of different brands from his vehicle.

Police have seized both the vehicles and registered a case under Excise Act.
