Hyderabad couple detained for assaulting police constable

Hyderabad: A police constable was injured after a couple allegedly assaulted him when he visited their home at SR Nagar to serve a pending warrant in connection with an old case registered against the husband at Jubilee Hills Police Station in 2018.

Police have registered a fresh case and detained Sri Datta and his wife.

Police said the constable had gone to Datta’s home to serve a non-bailable warrant issued by the court after he jumped the bail.

The case dates back to 2018 when Jubliee Hills Police had arrested Datta in an assault case. However, he was later bailed out by the court. Since then he had been absconding.

After he failed to appear before the court, a non-bailable warrant was issued against him. When the cop went to serve the warrant, Datta immediately pounced on him. As the constable was trying to save himself from his clutches, Datta’s wife came rushing and bit him on his hands. He suffered minor wounds in the assault.

Constable somehow managed to alert SR Nagar Police Station. Later cops rushed to the spot and rescued the police constable.

Police later registered a case and detained both husband and wife. Police said the duo will be produced before the court. Further investigation is underway, police officials said.
