Hyderabad: City girl Saumya Ronde has been selected to represent India in the World Junior ITF Tennis Championships for the Under-14 category. The event will be held at Gold Coast, Down Under.

The 14-year-old student of St Josephā€™s Public School has come a long way since starting at Asif Tennis Club as a seven-year-old. Today, she is India No 4 in the age-group, which won her a spot in the World Junior-bound national squad.

She is currently ranked No 30 in Asia.

Saumya credits her first coach, Mr Narleekar for fine-tuning her strengths and weaknesses. Today, she still trains under him at the club in the mornings while every evening she practices at YMCA, Narayanguda.

She gave enough signs of her talent while winning the ATF (Asian Tennis Federation) title besides ATF tournaments in Raipur and Hyderabad. Apart from helping her team clinch the team event gold in the 65th National School Games in 2019-20, she served notice of her talent while winning the individual bronze in the same event

ā€˜I wish to win Grand Slam singles titles, declared Saumya in a rather determined tone.
