Hyderabad: A police constable of the Hyderabad city police was arrested on 25 June for allegedly molesting his 12-year-old niece. The man had attempted to rape the girl and also threatened her of dire consequences if she reported the matter to anyone.
The Hyderabad police commissioner, Anjani Kumar, tweeted about the arrest. “None is above the law. We had to arrest a constable of Ramgopalpet who molested a girl. He is being sent to jail. I feel ashamed that there are such black sheep in our department,” he wrote.

According to the police, the girl, a student of Class VIII, was living with her family at Sikh village in Secunderabad which falls under the jurisdiction of the Bowenpally police station. Her maternal uncle Varadaraj Sudesh Umesh also lived in the neighborhood and was a constable at the Ramgopalpet police station.
A few days ago, he came to the girl’s home for some work and noticed that she was alone at home. Taking advantage of the situation, he forced himself on her. When she raised an alarm, he left the place but not before warning her of dire consequences if she told anyone of the incident.
The girl initially kept quiet but later confided in her parents who reported the issue to the police on Thursday. The Bowenpally police registered a case and arrested Umesh.
