Hyderabad: A businessman paid Rs 11, 11,111 to buy a fancy car registration number `TG 09 D 0001’ through the online bidding held by Central Zone RTO in Khairatabad.
Rudra Raju Rajeev Kumar, a businessman, secured the coveted number on Tuesday.
Central Zone RTO in Khairatabad earned Rs 52,52,283 in a single day by auctioning fancy vehicle registration numbers.
New TG series including 0001, 0009, 9999, 0009, 0007, 0006, 0005, 0077, and 0099 went under the hammer. Drivers had to spend huge money in an online competitive bid. As a status symbol, these unusual numerals have sparked intense bidding.
The number TG 09 D 0001 fetched the highest bid. Other significant sales included the number TG 09 D 0009, which was acquired by Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL) for Rs 10.40 lakh.
The number TG 09 C 9999 was acquired by Sriyan Constructions for Rs 7,19,999 and TG 09 D 0006 was acquired by Porus Agro Food Products Pvt Ltd for Rs 3.65 lakh. Vega Shree Golden Diamonds obtained TG 09 D 0005 for Rs 3.45 lakh, according to transport department officials.
“Due to the wide range of preferences expressed by car owners, the demand for personalized registration numbers is only increasing. The transport department is expecting future registration number auctions to generate a steady flow of interest and income as fancy numbers continue to gain popularity,” a senior official from the transport department said.
