By Newsmeter Network Published on 21 Jan 2021 6:25 AM GMTHyderabad slipped into shock on Thursday when a 10-year-old boy, who was set ablaze by his alcoholic father, succumbed to his injuries after battling for life at Gandhi hospital for three days.
The boy had received more than 50 percent burns. Earlier an attempt to murder case was registered against the boy's father Balu. He has been arrested and sent to judicial remand.
According to police, the family is putting up in a hut near Government School at Road No 2 of KPHB. On Sunday night, when the boy identified as Rathlavath Charan was watching television along with his mother, his father Balu asked him to get beedies from a shop.
After the boy bought beedies, he thrashed him black and blue. He abused him saying that the boy was not studying and attending tuition regularly.
Further, he poured turpentine and set him on fire. The boy ran out for help and jumped into a ditch near the house. Later the flames were doused and he was rushed to the hospital.
KPHB police are investigating the case. Police said the body will be handed over to the family after postmortem. Further investigation is underway.
