Telangana High Court on Monday upheld the state government's decision to reserve 100 percent of the competitive authority quota seats for locals in medical colleges.
A division bench of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice NV Shravan Kumar upheld the government’s decision to reserve competitive authority quota seats in medical colleges established after June 2, 2014, for Telangana students.
Advocate General and Standing Counsel for the University said that 85% of competent authority quota seats alone had been reserved for local candidates for Telangana in respect of institutions set up after the formation of the state i.e., 02.06.2014 and it is permissible for the students of other states including Andhra Pradesh to participate in 15% of competent authority quota seats. Therefore the aforesaid provision, if not already made, shall be made in the seat matrix notified by the University.
Telangana High Court had taken up the hearing on the petitions filed by AP students challenging GO 72.
In view of the preceding analysis, the court did not find any merit in the writ petitions and dismissed them accordingly.
